Starbucks: Helping to End Lupus One Cup at a Time
Every year, New York City walkers are treated to a cup of great coffee and a smile by the staff at Starbucks. As an in-kind sponsor for the Walk to End Lupus Now NYC, Starbucks generously provides 2,000 cups of coffee on walk morning.
While the company is known for philanthropy, their participation in the walk is about more than supporting an important cause - it's personal. Starbucks Manager Nicole Briggs lost her young sister Shonna to lupus. Shonna was 12 years old when she passed and had suffered tremendous pain. But Shonna was more than her lupus - she was a mother's daughter, a wonderful sister, an outstanding aunt and a fantastic friend to all who knew her.
Nicole and her colleagues at Starbucks give their time and resources to support the Walk to End Lupus Now because they understand the impact of this cruel disease. They support the walk in Shonna's memory and for all those impacted by lupus in the community.
"We are truly grateful to Nicole and the team at Starbucks. They provide a great service on walk day and set a wonderful example for other sponsors and community businesses. Starbucks has been a wonderful sponsor and the personal effort by Nicole and the employees is inspiring," shared Monica Smith, Regional Development & Engagement Director. "When walkers pick up a cup of coffee on May 4 at the walk, I hope they will give an extra special thanks knowing that Starbucks is truly committed to our mission."
We are grateful for the dedication of Starbucks and all of our generous corporate partners including GSK, GEICO, PIX11, Northwell Health's Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, Seaglass Technology, Helberg Electrical Supply, ROAR Organic, BLUR, Skinny Dipped Almonds, Fidelis Care, and NYU Langone Health.
Over 6,000 people are expected to attend the Walk to End Lupus Now NYC on May 4 at the Seaport District Pier 17. You can join us as we strive to raise $530,000. Register at www.watlktoendlupus.org/nyc.
