Lupus Foundation of America Urges Congress to Protect NIH Research Funding
The Lupus Foundation of America continues to lead advocacy efforts to protect and strengthen funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is the largest funder of lupus research. Recently, we joined with 100 patient, research and health professional organizations in urging Congress to provide robust funding for the NIH and oppose actions taken and proposed by the Administration to delay and withhold research funding, reorganize the NIH without stakeholder input, and cut funding for NIH by nearly 40% in FY 2026.
The following community letter to Congress builds on our advocacy for NIH, which has included grassroots outreach during this year’s National Lupus Advocacy Summit and our work leading the NIAMS Coalition, a national, independent consortium of more than 95 professional and voluntary organizations raising awareness for the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases' (NIAMS) research efforts. NIAMS is the lead institute coordinating lupus research at NIH.
