Lupus & You: Coping with a Pediatric Lupus Diagnosis - A Parent Perspective
There’s a lot you can do to help your child with lupus. Learning as much as you can about the disease is an important first step. In this program we will cover tools and resources to help a parent cope with a pediatric lupus diagnosis. Hear from a panel including a; parent of a child with lupus, pediatric rheumatologist, pediatric nephrologist, mental health professional, and young adult diagnosed as a child. Join us Monday evening, October 24 at 7PM for this program.
Meet the Presenters:
Dr. Sarah Bayefsky
Dr. Bayefsky is a fellow physician in Pediatric and Adult Rheumatology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania. She attended college at Harvard, went to medical school at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and completed her Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) residency at Vanderbilt. She enjoys taking care of patients of all ages with rheumatologic conditions and hopes to improve the care of patients who transition from pediatric to adult rheumatology.
Shannon Oscar
Shannon Oscar is the parent of a sixteen year old girl who was diagnosed with lupus shortly after turning eleven years old. Her daughter Abbie has worked with the dedicated team at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to keep the disease and its symptoms at bay for almost five years now. They are active in programming, awareness and advocacy on behalf of the lupus community.
Shruthi Rangnekar

Shruti recently relocated from Minneapolis to the Philadelphia area, where she's excited to connect with local lupus warriors and advocates. She was diagnosed with lupus at 16 and has been actively advocating for lupus warriors since she was 22. She regularly posts about living with chronic illness on her social media accounts at @morethanmylupus (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter). In the rest of her free time, she practices yoga, hangs out with her dog, reads voraciously, and goes on nature hikes (body allowing).
Dr. Becky Scobell
Becky Scobell is a pediatric nephrologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and one of the attendings that sees patients in the Lupus Integrated Nephritis Clinic. She completed both her pediatrics residency and nephrology fellowship training at CHOP, but is originally from Michigan. Thus, her favorite fall activities include watching University of Michigan football and hiking with her husband and 3 kids.
Dr. Christina Rouse, PsyD
Dr. Rouse is a pediatric psychologist in the Division of Urology and Nephrology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Rouse completed her fellowship in General Pediatric Psychology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and her internship in Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
