Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. It is also an opportunity to recognize how lupus affects these communities and help ensure people have access to information, support and resources that can make a difference throughout their journey.
Lupus prevalence is two times higher in Hispanic patients. Whether you are looking for answers after a new diagnosis, trying to better manage lupus, supporting someone you love or simply wanting to learn more, the Lupus Foundation of America has resources that can help.
Understanding lupus can come with a lot of questions, and having information in the language you prefer to use. The Centro Nacional de Recursos sobre el Lupus offers Spanish-language information across your lupus journey. Sometimes, it also helps to talk to a person. Our Health Education Specialists provide free, nonmedical support to answer lupus-related questions, explain health information and connect people with resources that may help. Support is available in both English and Spanish. For those looking for guidance they can follow over time, Tome Control is a 12-week email series created in Spanish for people living with lupus.

Reliable information can help you feel more prepared to ask questions and take an active role in your care. The Expert Series is an educational podcast series featuring leading lupus experts with a focus on helping you live well with lupus. Spanish-language episode topics include new treatment guidelines for systemic lupus erythematosus, managing lupus-related pain, financial resources and more. We have also offered a Spanish-language Lupus & You educational webinar, El Lupus Y Tu: Diagnostico, Sintomos Y Mas. Presenters discussed the patient's perspective on lupus, biologic treatments, diagnosis, common symptoms, and treatments.
Living with lupus can sometimes feel isolating, and finding people who understand the experience can make a meaningful difference. The Lupus Foundation of America offers support groups where people can connect, share, and ask questions. The National Hispanic Lupus Support (Bilingual) Group creates a space for Hispanic individuals living with lupus and their loved ones to connect and find support. For those looking for a group conducted fully in Spanish, the Grupo Nacional de Apoyo para el Lupus en español offers another opportunity to connect with the community.
There are many ways to turn awareness into action, whether that’s becoming an advocate, joining a Walk to End Lupus Now® event, sharing your story, or finding an opportunity that feels meaningful to you.

El Mes de la Herencia Hispana es un momento para celebrar las historias, culturas y contribuciones de las comunidades hispanas y latinas. También es una oportunidad para reconocer cómo el lupus afecta a estas comunidades y ayuda a garantizar que las personas tengan acceso a información, apoyo y recursos que pueden marcar la diferencia a lo largo de su trayectoria.
