Can something in the diet cause lupus?
The development of lupus is not related to anything in a person's diet. Just as there is no "lupus diet" for treating lupus, there are also no dietary "causes" of lupus. There is anecdotal evidence that some foods may increase inflammation and thus worsen symptoms, but scientific evidence has not found that any specific foods consistently aggravate disease symptoms, or contribute to the development of lupus.
If you have concerns about a particular food contributing to disease symptoms, talk to your health care provider about your observations.
