My name is Darlene Martin. I’ve lived with Lupus for over 30 years. This has been a challenge that changed my life. At first, I was losing my hair from the crown of my scalp. It was very painful and I had red raised nodules on my skin. I’ve worked for a dermatologist for years and I finally asked if I could have a biopsy of my scalp.

After several days, the biopsy results showed me having lupus. I had been getting rashes on my face and body for years that was very unsightly. I started plaquenil and got intralesional injections for years every time I would have a flare up. It’s been very challenging over the years.

Being a dermatology nurse, I’ve seen many patients with lupus. I share my story every chance I get just to help someone with unsightly scars. My life has had its ups and downs but no matter what situations I’m faced with, I keep pushing myself. I have health challenges even now but I thank God for the great support system of family and friends that keep laughter in my life.

I feel God has me here for a reason so I can share my story to let others know to keep pushing and pushing forward. When you get knocked down, always get back up!
