Lupus typically affects young women during a time in their life when they may be preparing for college, launching a career, getting married, or starting a family. In other words, life is busy, and dealing with a chronic disease like lupus probably wasn’t part of the plan.

Join us for this inspiring and informative virtual retreat for young women aged 19-30 living with lupus to learn how to take control of your health and well-being while meeting and sharing with others your age with lupus.

Join Dr. Joyce Chang as she discusses ways you can take an active role in your lupus care. Learn how to survey your skill set, stick to a treatment plan, effectively problem-solve, and plan ahead for school, work, and play.

Understanding and Managing Lupus Nephritis

Lupus nephritis is an inflammation of the kidneys caused by systemic lupus erythematosus. As many as 50% of adults and 80% of children with lupus will go on to develop lupus nephritis. Joanne Mitchell-McLaren, RN, BSN, MSN, NP, Patient Engagement Liaison with GSK will discuss the important role of the kidneys and help you understand lupus nephritis and how to effectively manage the disease.

Join Registered Dietician, Kathy Levin to learn how you can replace unhealthy behaviors with positive ones — such as eating healthfully, being physically active, managing stress, avoiding risky substances, getting adequate sleep and having a strong support system. Kathy will also share some of her delicious plant-based recipes and show you how to prepare them in a live cooking demonstration. All registrants will receive the recipes in advance via email so you can follow along.

Reproductive Health in People with Lupus

Join Dr. Catherine Sims as she walks you through the phases of reproduction from birth control to pregnancy, and ultimately menopause. People with lupus should have the opportunity to discuss with their doctors how to properly time pregnancy to minimize complications, what birth control is safe for them to take, and how to manage menopause. This presentation is supplemented by printable handouts from lupuspregnancy.org that patients can bring with them to clinic visits to discuss what you learn with your doctors.

Grieving My Old Life, Receiving a New One
