Thirty-One Faces of Hope: Dr. Maria Boynton

The lupus community includes people living with lupus, friends, family and supporters across Georgia. For Lupus Awareness Month, we would like to highlight some of our lupus heroes and champions.

To say we are huge fans of Dr. Maria Boynton is an understatement!  She provides a voice for people living with lupus as our MC at all of our Atlanta walk events.  Dr. Boynton takes the time to listen to our stories and encourages lupus heroes and champions to speak up, show up and fight for an end to this cruel disease. She is an integral part of our lupus community and we are forever grateful for her support!

In her own words:
“I support the fight to end lupus for my friend Ronette Brown. We met at Albany State University in Albany GA.

I remember her being one of the classiest women I'd ever seen. She set a standard for professionalism that I'd rarely noticed.

As time passed, I didn't see her as often. I later learned she'd been diagnosed with lupus, and was in and out of the hospital.

One day, she told me how she'd wished we'd been closer, yet she thought that her illness had pulled us apart.

She lived life to the fullest, even during her illness. I watched her do it. It warms my heart to see others do it.

And...I hang on to my friends like there's no tomorrow.”
