Thirty-One Faces of Hope: Adrienne Allende

The lupus community includes people living with lupus, friends, family and supporters across Georgia. For Lupus Awareness Month, we would like to highlight some of our lupus heroes and champions.

Adrienne Allende

Updated story: Adrienne not only works as our bookkeeper, but she has taken on the role of answering patient inquires in both English and Spanish. What an amazing woman!

We honored Adrienne for her volunteer efforts as a Face of Hope in 2020 as our NEW BOOKKEEPER of the Georgia Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America.

During this pandemic, she has made and donated hundreds of masks to essential workers and those in need including her rheumatologist, Dr. Mohammad Kamran and his practice.

Adrienne was diagnosed with lupus at 31 after going to the ER with a simple ear infection. That one day turned into 7 weeks in the hospital that included kidney failure, lung problems, chemotherapy, heart and liver issues and a blood transfusion.

She was told she had an estimate of 5 years left due to her complications and was then told she could not have any more children. This was in 2006. 14 years later, she has a healthy 10 year old son and she’s not only living but THRIVING! Her humor and honesty while beating lupus, coupled with her intellect, help the LFAGA to continue being a well-oiled machine.

Adrienne does not allow lupus to determine her attitude or her work ethic. She truly is a survivor and a warrior!
