Strategies to Embrace Living with Lupus Fearlessly
If so, see if SELF is right for you
People with lupus search every day for ways to manage lupus and live their best lives. That’s why the Lupus Foundation of America has developed Strategies to Embrace Living with Lupus Fearlessly (SELF).
SELF can help you:
✔ Manage your symptoms
✔ Manage your stress
✔ Manage your medications
✔ Work with your health care team
This is an online, free self-care program to help you manage your lupus. SELF offers personalized support at your own pace that changes to fit your needs. You can use this program on your computer, smartphone, or tablet.
What can I expect from SELF?
The LFA has developed a self-care program for people with lupus to help them manage symptoms, manage stress, manage medications and work with their health care team.
You are in the driver’s seat.
Once you step through an onboarding survey, you will be able to choose what is most important to you to focus on for the next 2 weeks. You can focus on managing symptoms, managing stress, managing medications, or working with your health care team.
SELF will help you build the skills you need to share in decision making about your care with your health care team. It will also help you make the most of your appointments. Your health care team will not be able to see the information you share with SELF. You can choose to share information about SELF with them.
Every 2 weeks, you can do a short 5 minute check-in to see how you are doing. At that time, you will also have the option to choose a new focus.
Your answers will help SELF change to meet your needs. SELF will build you a personal activity center with tools, symptom and medication trackers, articles, videos, and stories chosen just for you. There will also be links to support from people like you and health educators.
If you want, SELF will also send you personalized tips via text or email.
More information about how to sign up for SELF will be available in the near future.
Everyone has different self-care needs, the examples below might not apply to you exactly. However, they will give you a glimpse of what to expect when you sign up for SELF.
The Lupus Foundation of America gratefully acknowledges Emory University, the University of Michigan and the University of California, San Francisco for their support in evaluating the SELF program.
