Mohamed S. - Diagnosed at age 10
After more than 15 years with lupus, I figured out a way to control it.
I was diagnosed as a lupus patient at the age of 10. After a lot of problems with my kidney, the doctor was confused because no one suspected lupus, until I took all the immunology tests. Then they figured out what was the reason behind my kidney disease.
For more than 15 years, I have been on Cortisone, immunosuppression medicines, blood pressure medicines and some vitamins… Very large list of medicine. It hasn’t been an easy journey because my lupus extended to my lungs, bones, and joints, and I almost had osteoporosis.
However, the advice I think that could be useful to lupus patients is not to quit sports. You have to do exercise, avoid the sun (especially in the summer) and drink a lot of water every day with eating healthy. This leads me to today, being a normal person, even with taking all the mentioned medicines. Right now, I feel healthier than even before lupus. I can live as a normal person (going to the gym, traveling, playing sports, etc.) with more than 8 years of my lupus being dormant and under control with medication.
Be strong, you are not alone :)
