Karen B. - Diagnosed Age 49
I was 37 years old when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 2004, 16 years ago. For the past 4 years, I've been getting weird rashes, joint problems, broken bones and my heart is beating really fast one minute then goes back to normal. My hands and feet turn red and cold if I use them too much, or purple and white and cold when I do not use them enough. My rheumatologist diagnosed me with lupus. I'm currently being treated for both lupus and MS, I never knew I could have both. I believe that's why it took so long to get diagnosed because I have both conditions. The fatigue and cognitive dysfunction can be seen in both conditions but the rashes, joints problems, broken bones and heart problems plus blood work were the deciding factors in my lupus diagnosis.
