Meet Your Facilitator!
Hi my name is Nikki, at the age of 15, a high school sophomore, my life was forever changed when I was handed a lupus diagnosis. It took a couple of years for me to accept the new "normal" my life had become. Once this happened, I decided the way to face lupus head on was to advocate for Lupus, that was one of the best decisions I could have made.
I am a phlebotomist by profession, working with kids at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, I will say, we can all learn so much from children. These kids taught me to appreciate every day, they have kept me grounded, I did more in the 15 years prior to my diagnosis than some people do in a life time. Some of these kids will never run, never play, and never know the "normal" we knew prior to our diagnosis. I recently turned 26, the most important lessons I have learned are that KNOWLEDGE IS POWER and some lessons are not taught by conventional teachers or adults, children have so much to teach us if we take the opportunity to really watch and learn from them. Some of my most valuable lessons were taught by children with cancer or lupus, they handle their illnesses with grace and don't complain that their lives have "changed”, they live with their "normal" and accept every new day with a sense of joy and understanding.
We will all have good days and bad days, the bad days make us stronger for the good days and they give us the strength to fight lupus, raise funds and awareness, and join together in search of better treatment and a cure.
Lupus does not have to be a lonely journey thanks to the LFA, GOC!
