LFA Medical Director Honored by Medical Society
The Allegheny County Medical Society Foundation (ACMSF) recently announced that it will present Susan M. Manzi, MD, MPH, with the 2016 Richard E. Deitrick Humanity in Medicine Award.
The award honors a physician who has improved the lives of patients by caring for them with integrity, honesty, and respect of their human dignity, and serves as a role model for other physicians.
As a leader in her field, Dr. Manzi has played an important role in advancing quality, innovation and best practices that have improved the treatment of patients with autoimmune illnesses. She is internationally known for her research and patient care in lupus, and she has published more than 200 reports of research on lupus and related diseases such as cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Manzi is chairwoman of the Department of Medicine at Allegheny Health Network and director of the Lupus Center of Excellence. She is a vice chair and professor at Temple University. Dr. Manzi received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Notre Dame, her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. Dr. Manzi completed her medical internship and residency at Duke University Medical Center and was appointed assistant chief resident. She completed her fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
The ACMSF represents physicians from all specialties and is dedicated to providing leadership and advocacy for patients and physicians. They have been serving Allegheny County since 1865. The award will be presented at the Celebration of Excellence Awards Gala, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Heinz Field.
