I Suffer From Lupus…
By lupus warrior, Eric Knight.
Lupus is a family matter.
I’ve lost two uncles, two nieces and my father due to lupus. Soon after my father passed away, I was diagnosed with lupus.
Lupus struck me just as I was about to begin the next chapter of my life. I had just graduated college, gotten married, and was ready to begin my career as a teacher. Lupus put a halt on my plans and changed my life forever.
I lost the ability to walk. Doctors found thirteen blood clots. I was in the hospital for six months. It took me two months to learn how to walk again. I cannot stand on my feet for long periods, I can only be in the sun a limited amount of time, and I can’t work because of lupus.
Yet through it all, I have had the support of family, my church community, and the Lupus Foundation of America.
I am so lucky to have a wife and three wonderful daughters who do everything possible to help me push through the challenges of lupus. My church community lifts up my spirit. The Lupus Foundation of America has connected me to support groups, helped me meet other men living with lupus, and provided me with doctor referrals and advice on medications.
Your year-end gift will ensure that people like me have a community to support them. Give today and help those living with lupus.
