A new Latin American study identified 431,834 cases of people in Colombia with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in a five-year period, which equates to 91 cases per 100,000 population in the country. Women account for 89% of cases and people ages 45-49 had a higher prevalence for lupus.
The data was collected through the Colombian Ministry of Health’s registry to collect and store information, called the Integrated Social Protection Information System (SISPRO). The registry gathers comprehensive information coming from the Colombian health system which provides 95% of health coverage.
This is the first study to describe demographic characteristics of lupus in Colombia. Learn about the LFA Research.forME Registry.
