I am 69 years old and at the time of diagnosis with all the other things going on with my health, I was told I likely wouldn't make it. I got that diagnosis when I was in my 40's. I have been told 3 times I wouldn't survive, I was told I would be in a wheelchair at 50, I have been told 4 times I would never sing again. I still am walking, I'm still here, I am strong and I am still performing benefit concerts and even ended up on the cover of a magazine last year.

Living life to the fullest is a choice, I choose to be thankful for every day I get on the planet and to use the gifts I have received to help others. Most of the people that come to my concerts have no idea that I have lupus. I also have survived stage 3 prostate cancer.

I believe that attitude, being my own best advocate for my health and exercise and diet play a huge role in keeping me here. I know so many people that are my age and don't have my health issues who can't keep up with me. I know that not seeing myself as sick and allowing myself to enjoy life results in me being able to hang with friends and do things that most would not even consider.

I have damage to my heart, lungs, kidneys and nervous system. I also was in a horrible car accident 12 years ago that left me with a fractured spine, I have 16 surgeries in 8 years and took a break to get very aggressive prostate cancer, I have 3 upcoming surgeries this year and with all of that, I keep getting up every day and keep putting one foot in front of the other.
