Although there has been some research looking at the impact of lupus on quality of life there has not been a systematic review of all research done around health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Measuring HRQoL is important because it allows for analysis of physical, mental and social conditions that impact an individual with lupus and can help improve management and treatment development.
The Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) is one of the most widely used scales for measuring quality of life and impact of a disease on the individuals living with them. Results from a new meta-analysis examined data from 36 lupus studies, including more than 6,500 people with lupus, using the SF-36. Results from this review showed the importance of improving HRQoL in people with lupus and that it should be part of the overall evaluation of health conditions of people with lupus.
