Most lupus nephritis (LN) clinical trials focus on long-term outcomes to determine efficacy. Researchers analyzed short-term outcomes in people with LN to gauge predictability of long-term outcomes on their kidneys. The investigators developed risk models to chart and review the records of 550 people from their first 12 months of receiving treatment through a 36-month follow-up period. Using clinical data acquired during the first year of therapy after diagnosis, researchers found that they were able to predict future adverse kidney outcomes in the group. The researchers concluded that the risk models they created, which will need further validation in a clinical trial, may be used to predict outcomes.
