Walk to End Lupus Now - Milwaukee
May 09, 2020
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
BE POWERFUL by showing your support for the tens of thousands of lupus warriors in Wisconsin! On May 9th, hundreds of lupus warriors and their friends, families, and supporters will gather at Hoyt Park in Wauwatosa to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for lupus.
Someone you know fights this mysterious, cruel disease every day. With symptoms that flare, mimic other diseases, and push the time for a diagnosis to an average of six years, lupus warriors need your support to battle the effects of this chronic disease. Awareness is the driving force behind fundraising for critically needed research, education, and advocacy. By signing up to participate in the Walk to End Lupus Now – Milwaukee, you are playing a crucial role in the fight against lupus!
Pre-registration runs through Wednesday, May 6th at a cost of $25 per adult and $15 per child. All pre-registered participants will receive a Walk to End Lupus Now t-shirt. Fundraising pages can be set up through the registration process.
Following May 6th, join us in the Day of Registration area inside Grand Hall at Tosa Pool in Hoyt Park. Day of Registration cost is $30 per adult and $17 per child. Day of Registration participants will receive t-shirts while they last.
The Walk to End Lupus Now – Milwaukee features a 1- or 2-mile walk on the beautiful Oak Leaf Trail, and it starts and ends at Hoyt Park. Before and after the walk, enjoy entertainment by the band Close Enuf, get your face painted in the Children’s Art Tent, show your support in the Lupus Warrior Tent, and try your luck in the Raffle Tent!
PARKING NOTICE: The Hoyt Park parking lot fills up on walk day. We have volunteers stationed at the entrance of the lot to let you know if there is lot parking available. Parking IS available along the Menomonee River Parkway; however posted parking rules are in affect. Parked cars blocking turn lanes, at bus stops, and other areas where parking is restricted or banned can and will be ticketed by Wauwatosa Police. Participants can enter the event area from the Parkway by walking over the footbridge toward the start line trellis (you do not need to enter on foot through the parking lot).

Showcasing Lupus Warriors
Visit the Warrior Tent to view lupus patients’ photos and stories, and take a minute to leave words of support and encouragement on their signs. To be showcased and receive a sign and warrior cap, you need to 1) recruit 8 pre-registered team members OR raise $200 in pledges and 2) submit your lupus story, photo, and signed permission waiver by Friday, May 1. Lupus Warrior caps and awareness bracelets will by available for purchase on walk day in the Warrior Tent as well.
We know you work hard to build a team and collect pledges; we are once again rewarding your efforts with fun prizes! The more pledges you collect, the more prizes you earn. The money raised funds research that leads to better treatments and a deeper understanding of lupus. Thank you for playing a vital role in unlocking the mysteries of lupus!
On event day, we have face painting, a fire truck, and our friends Close Enuf playing your favorite hits from the 50s-70s! The playground at Hoyt Park is open, as well as the concession stand at the Landing. Relax after the walk with a pretzel, pizza, soda, or beer!
