Lupus Awareness Month
Lupus is more pervasive and more severe than people think, and has an impact that often goes unnoticed by the general public. In fact, research shows that nearly two-thirds of the public knows little or nothing about lupus. You can help change that by celebrating Lupus Awareness Month this May. Check out the following events to see how we're celebrating.
World Lupus Day: Thursday, May 10th
While we are officially observing World Lupus Day on May 16th, World Lupus Day is officially May 10th. Since 2004, this day remembers and honors the millions people around the world who are affected by lupus. Be sure to sign the petition to make lupus a higher priority for the World Health Organization.
World Lupus Day Rally: Wednesday, May 16th from 12-2 pm
Join us at Thomas Paine Plaza (across from the Municipal Services Building at 1401 JFK Blvd) in Center City, Philadelphia, for a midday rally. Expect entertainment and empowerment!
Philadelphia-based cover band RedX will entertain the crowd throughout the day, so if you work or live near the Plaza, feel free to just show up- no registration required.
We are also excited to host Dr. Belinda Birnbaum and Dr. Arundathi Jayatilleke, two rheumatologists from Drexel Medicine who will be answering any questions you may have at our "Ask a Doc" table.
In addition, we'll be selling some LFA merchandise.
We'd love to see our community out there supporting the millions of people affected by lupus around the world! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Put on Purple Day: Friday, May 18th
