Giving Tuesday is November 29, 2022

Every year, on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, people across the world take the time to kick off the holiday season by giving back to the charitable causes that are important to them. With your donation, we can make a real and lasting impact in the lives of those who are affected by lupus and provide reasons for hope.

Reasons for Hope

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the body, affecting everything from the kidneys, lungs, and joints. Symptoms range from a skin rash to a heart attack. Lupus affects every aspect of a person’s life: work, school, finances, family, and relationships. While there is no cure for lupus, thanks to our generous donors, there are still reasons for hope!

Hopeful New Treatments on the Horizon

Over the past two years, several new drugs received FDA approval for lupus and many drugs, both old and new, are now being studied in lupus. The variety of scientific approaches reflects the growing interest in lupus at all levels of the biomedical and pharmaceutical industry, offering realistic hope that we will see additional treatments for lupus in the not-too-distant future.

New Partnership to Improve Health Outcomes

We recently started a pilot patient navigation program in partnership with the Washington University Lupus Clinic. Our patient navigator will be in clinic to assess and address immediate patient needs and provide connections to community resources. Studies indicate that patient navigators contribute to improving access and continuity of care for better health outcomes.

New Ambassador Program Helps Lupus Raise Awareness

We launched a new Lupus Ambassador program this year and trained 11 passionate and committed volunteers from across our chapter territory. Ambassadors are charged with helping us expand our reach and impact by raising funds and awareness and educating their communities about lupus and the work of the Lupus Foundation of America.
