3 Ways To Enjoy The Sun Safely
Three ways to enjoy the sun safely

Photosensitivity is very common in people with lupus, and the disease is made worse with UV exposure. Here are three ways that people with lupus and photosensitivity can still enjoy the sun safely:
Use sunscreen of at least SPF 30.
This is very important, especially if someone is photosensitive, as UV radiation can cause flares and skin rashes. Make sure to use sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
Wear sun-protective clothing.
If you’re spending time outdoors, wear clothing that has sun protection with a UPF rating. A number of companies specialize in these items, with large brim hats, long-sleeved shirts, and long pants being especially important.
Be aware of indoor light sources.
UV rays from indoor light sources also can trigger a lupus flare. If one is exposed to fluorescent lighting for long periods of time, the accumulated exposure to UVA and UVB becomes a concern. Even some copy machines and office gadgets contain lighting mechanisms that emit UV rays. Thus, it is important to use shields, filters, and shades that offer protection from UV rays.
We all love the long days of summer and the joy of time spent outdoors. An effective sunscreen, protective clothing, and UV shields or filters will help anyone with lupus spend time in the sun safely.
