Dr. Ramsey-Goldman, Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University, received the 2017 Evelyn V. Hess, MD, MACP, MACR Award. The award recognizes a clinical or basic researcher whose body of work significantly advanced the understanding of the pathophysiology, etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, or treatment of lupus. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Ramsey-Goldman has worked at the interface between immunology and rheumatology, focusing her expertise on resolving some of the mysteries that surround systemic lupus erythematosus including: cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and pregnancy. Dr. Ramsey-Goldman is recognized both nationally and internationally for her clinical skills, diversity of her research effort and dedication and focus on lupus. She has undertaken numerous major committee assignments for the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC). As chair of SLICC from 2003-2008, Dr. Ramsey-Goldman worked hard on a range of important topics including quality indicators, lupus classification, flares assessments in lupus and guidelines for lupus nephritis. She continues to serve as valuable member of the group. Her contributions to lupus research and three decades of hard work make her an outstanding choice for the 2017 Hess Award.
