Lupus Warrior of the Week (Aug 28 - Sept 4) - Alex Juda
"My name is Alex Juda and I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2014, at age 16, while I was in my senior year of high school. I was a tennis player, a dual enrolled student at Tri-C, a part time employee, and a very social classmate. While my symptoms at the time were at their mildest, I still struggled to overcome the new obstacle of joint pain, fatigue, and hair loss at a very young age. The next two years symptoms progressed quickly. Multiple organs were affected, extremely high blood pressure, and multiple hospitalizations.
In June of 2016, I participated in an experimental stem cell treatment in search of relief. I could not believe how quickly I was seeing improved results. Right before Thanksgiving, my bloodwork came back showing no sign of lupus, 100% in remission! A year later I still feel amazing and I’m medication free! I am so fortunate to have the friends and family willing to help me afford to have this life changing procedure. My goal now is to stay active in the lupus community and raise awareness for the treatment that has been given to me. It was like a breath of fresh air when I felt like I was suffocating."
