My name is Vilicia Bates and I've had Lupus for 19 years now. I was diagnosed in 1995 and was a rare case in my home town of Toledo, Ohio. My journey with Lupus began at the young age of 25. I was pregnant with my baby boy at the time and a car ran me off the road while I was pregnant and scared the crap out of me. The doctor's say that's how my Lupus came out and that it had laid dormant in my body the whole time but the stress of the car accident brought it out. This began a whole lot of doctor and hospital visits and stays that seem to never end but I've been blessed by God because I'm still sitting here telling you all my story. So with pride and dignity I want to form a friends and family walk team that will be with me forever in my heart and my soul. Showing my support for this disease helps to bring research to help fight this horrible disease that no one understands cause as they call it the ghost disease cause it's not like cancer where you can see someone is sick. Some Lupus patients don't even look sick and that can be very hard on us. I just want more help for others in the future cause this disease is very tricky and difficult as well for those of us that have it and our families that deal with us. I'm just excited about doing my part to give awareness about this deadly disease.
