I was diagnosed with Systemic lupus in 2000 I had two young daughters at the time of my diagnosis. At the time of my diagnosis, a good family friend who had lived with lupus for many years had taken a turn for the worse. I was terrified that I was going to leave my two young daughters without a mother. At that time, my kidneys were shutting down and all treatments that my team of doctors were trying were not working. One week in the hospital 34 pounds of fluid was taken off of me, unbelievable huh? I wore shoes 2 sizes bigger due to swollen feet and ankles. My legs would split open and fluid would secrete out. I knew that I wanted to live every time I looked at my beautiful daughters. Now 15 years later, I am still in the fight and have experienced minimal health issues. My motto is: I take each day one day at a time and if I have a bad day I deal with it. Until then I don't focus on my illness. I am truly blessed to be alive.
