“Invisible illness" -- I may look fine, but most of the time I feel bad. I was diagnosed with lupus July 22, 2015 after years of numerous doctors and countless diagnostics. I'm a mother of 2 and engaged to my college sweetheart. I'm a Registered veterinary technician, love being outdoors and any new opportunities that come my way. I've been sober for a little over 5 years, by the Grace of God, as well! I pray for all of you who are fighting the fight, too! Most days I find myself smiling through the pain. I hate it when I've been "judged" for looking OK..It's called strength!! I refuse to be dull, reserved and withdrawn. Yes, I tend to hide away at the worst times, but I push through every painful day, sleepless night, and avoided medication.... Somedays I'm crappy, flare ups are the worst and I just want to cry, but I try to stay positive and look like I feel "well"..... We smile through the pain. My life has changed in this way....I forget that I need to prioritize and pace myself. I have to weigh activities, favors, and invitations, considering if they will keep me from the rest, exercise, or relaxation I need to feel well.
I pray every morning that I will survive a whole day without a flare up, or as I call them, "episodes”...When I'm having a bad day... I like to "do me." I'll go to the Y.M.C.A for a swim or relax in the whirlpool. A massage at the spa or relaxation in my king size bed with a heating pad is nice. If I'm having a bad day and working a 12 hour shift, I stay positive. I pray for strength and thank God for all he's blessed me with. Stay positive.
