Hi my name is Demetrice Napper, and my lupus story started out with my mom being diagnosed back in 1989. We are from a small town in West Virginia, a town that had never heard of the disease nor how to treat it. With my mother's strength and courage we spread awareness for the disease and finally found knowledgeable help from a team of doctors at The Ohio State University. We packed up and moved to Columbus, Ohio and with that move we found great support and treatment. With our own personal research we found great doctors and a few unknown family members that ironically also had the disease but that's not truly a bad thing because we were able to learn from each other and find synergy with each other. We lost my mother, Frances Randall in December 2007, hence our name Team Frankie, with the loss of my mother we gained strength in knowing we are not alone in the fight.
Millions may suffer from this disease but no one is giving up. We are lupus Warriors standing strong and fighting every day for more research, awareness, and support. My mother always taught us to give generously, support others, and make others aware. The disease is a mystery but it's not without clues. There's Pride in Purple, Strength in Numbers, Power in Knowledge, and lupus Warriors never back down. I recently began testing to find out for sure if I too have lupus, I'm not scared because I know I'm not alone. There is light at the end of the tunnel. With my mother as my guardian angel , my siblings, and other family members by my side we will continue the fight. Purple Pride.
