Walk to End Lupus Now Greater Hartford raises $65,000!
The Walk to End Lupus Now Greater Hartford took place on Sunday, June 2. In its second year at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford the walk had great energy and strong community support. 1,000 people walked to increase lupus awareness and raise funds for lupus research. It was a beautiful afternoon to come together as one powerful voice against lupus.
The Walk to End Lupus Now Greater Hartford surpassed its $58,000 fundraising goal and so far has raised an incredible $65,000 Thank you to our hard working committee members, team captains, walkers, sponsors, donors, and volunteers who helped make the WTELNCT a great success. The day consisted of musical entertainment by DJ Trai, an energetic Zumba warm-up by Zumba with Kay, face painting, and several fun activities from our sponsors GSK, Charter Oak Health Center, HOT 93.7, and the Hartford Courant. Planning committee member and team captain, Alisha Pena, shared the walk day experience through her eyes by taking over the LFA Northeast Region Instagram – see the replay of the day here!
The top 10 teams together raised an amazing $34,000 and were recognized with customized team signs to carry as they walked. Dr. Barbara Edelheit, a pediatric rheumatologist at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, shared the importance of raising funds for research and expressed her thanks on behalf of the medical community during the opening ceremony. The Connecticut Children’s Medical Center team kicked off the 3-mile walk with a ribbon cutting and led our 1,000 walkers around Pratt & Whitney Stadium. The Golden Eagle Pathfinders Drum Corps volunteered their talents playing a rousing set to motivate the walkers from start to finish! View photos from walk day on Facebook.
