The Seaport District NYC Pier 17 was a sea of purple on Saturday, May 4th as walkers from throughout the region came together for the 12th Annual Walk to End Lupus Now NYC. Teams and individuals wore shirts and held up signs bearing the names of those they love who are living with lupus. People also came together to pay tribute to those whose lives have been cut short from this often brutal disease.
Despite the rain, there were many smiles, tears and hugs and a collective fierce determination present as the crowd chanted "END LUPUS NOW! END LUPUS NOW!" New additions to the walk this year included a Warrior Tent where people living with lupus were able to meet and connect and a Memorial Wall on stage where family members and friends could pay tribute to their loved ones who have passed from lupus. Thank you to all of the team captains, team members, individual walkers, sponsors, volunteers, committee members and donors who made this event a great day for everyone present. A special thank you to our co-emcees for the day Kala Rama from PIX11 and Dr. Barbara “Roxie” DeLaleu, our National Ambassador Dorothy Toran and DJ Dae.
