Making Your Voice Heard for People Living with Lupus
Our attention span is getting shorter - television, radio, newspapers, Instagram, Facebook, email, texts and whatever apps are being launched as we speak clamor for our attention. It is getting harder to make our voices heard above the nonstop information coming out way. But it is critically important that we work even harder to raise more awareness about lupus, dispel myths, provide hope and raise funds. And that is what so many of you have done this year.
Perhaps you are a Team Captain for one of our four Walk to End Lupus Now fundraising events- making phone calls and sending emails to raise money and recruit more people to help advance our mission. Or maybe you are one of the dedicated walkers sharing your own posts on social media and sending your own emails. You might be a member of our Young Leadership Committee, leading the way in reaching out to your peers to enlist them in new and creative ways to raise more money for research and increase awareness. You might be one of our incredible LFA Northeast Community Ambassadors out in the community speaking to groups about lupus and the work of the LFA. You may have attended one of our Lupus Learning and Living programs, learned some new information and shared it with others to help increase understanding. If you were one of the people who hosted a fundraising event in your community, set up an online fundraiser through Facebook or made a donation, you helped make a difference for everyone living with lupus. And if you advocated whether in person, by phone or by email with your elected representatives to talk about the importance of lupus funding, you are helping to make lupus an important federal and state priority.
As the year comes to a close we are inundated with requests for many worthy causes. We owe it to every person living with lupus and everyone who cares for them to do everything we can to make our voices heard for our very worthy cause. We thank you for all of the ways you have contributed your time, money and energy throughout 2018. You are making a difference.
Wishing you and your families a wonderful 2019 ahead.
