Walk to End Lupus Now Raises $75,000!

The Walk to End Lupus Now returned to Connecticut on Sunday, October 15 with strong community support at beautiful Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. Over 700 community supporters walked to increase lupus awareness and raise funds for critically needed research.  It was a gorgeous day at the beach for walkers, sponsors, donors, and volunteers to come together as one powerful voice against lupus.

The Walk to End Lupus Now CT - Norwalk surpassed its $60,000 fundraising goal and raised an incredible $75,000 and counting! The fantastic fundraising efforts of teams and walkers and the hard work of the planning committee led to a highly successful fundraiser.  The top 5 five teams together raised an amazing $27,000 and were recognized with customized team signs to carry as they walked. Cheryl, a top team member, shared a few words about her daughter, Annelise, who is 12 years and living with lupus and vowed never to stop fighting for a cure. Team Dove Love for the Cure kicked off the 3-mile Walk by leading 700 walkers through the scenic trail at Calf Pasture Beach.

Committee members met monthly to secure sponsorships, recruit new teams, and enlist Walk volunteers to create a fabulous walk day experience.  Through their determination, the Walk was sponsored by Yale New Haven Health, Castleton Commodities International, Gen Re, and K2 Corporate Mobility as well as media partners News 12 CT, Serendipity Magazine, and Fairfield County Parent Magazine.

As 2018 approaches, the Lupus Foundation of America is gearing up for additional events in the state of Connecticut and will be extending its reach in the Hartford based area. The Foundation is planning a free educational program, Lupus: Learning & Living, in the spring.  The program is designed for patients and their families and friends to receive the latest information on living with lupus from experts.  In addition to the Norwalk event, the Foundation is planning to host the Walk to End Lupus Now CT – Hartford in the early summer of 2018.
