Mariposas Bellas Campaign - Butterflies for Change
Mariposas Bellas Campaign
My name is Adrianna A. Rodriguez and I am a Kean University Speech Pathology major. The Lupus Foundation of America New Jersey Chapter (LFANJ) has decided to back me in launching my Mariposas Bellas Campaign. Mariposas Bellas means beautiful butterfly in Spanish. People with lupus often have the signature malar rash during flare ups which can resemble the shape of a butterfly. The Mariposas Bellas Campaign is to create a curtain of Origami butterflies and present it at the 2018 National Policy Summit in Washington D.C. The National Policy Summit is where we speak with government officials about health care policies.
These origami butterflies will represent the number of newly diagnosed cases each year in the US which is 16,000. The curtain of butterflies will provide a visual impact for the governmental representatives. I will be hosting various events throughout New Jersey. At these events, I will be taking donations of $.50 or more which will go to the Lupus Foundation of America New Jersey Chapter. Those that donate will have the opportunity to decorate a butterfly that will go on the curtain. Decorations can include words of inspirations or names of someone they know that has been affected by a chronic health condition. You can support this campaign through your donations at : https://www.gofundme.com/mariposas-bellas-campaign.
I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2011 at age fifteen, only a week shy of my 16th birthday. My health has continued to be a rollercoaster ride over the past few years. Nonetheless, I do my best to remain positive and bring love and happiness into other people’s lives. I am an avid spokesperson for the foundation and I help newly diagnosed teens that are struggling with the steps of healing and acceptance. Since being diagnosed I have been trying to find new ways to create awareness and raise donations. Finally, I have found the perfect way to increase awareness on a larger scale.
