Lupus is an unpredictable and misunderstood disease in which the immune system is out of balance, causing damage to any organ system in the body. Symptoms of lupus come and go, change over time, and often imitate other illnesses, making lupus difficult to diagnose. An estimated 1.5 to 2 million Americans have a form of lupus and it is one of the world’s cruelest, most unpredictable and devastating diseases. Among some of the Foundation programs are patient education, support and referrals to physicians and community services, teleconferences and webinars, newsletters, and events such as its annual “Walk to End Lupus Now.”
