Make it your mission to end lupus by making a year-end donation to the Heartland Chapter. Your donation will help to fund vital research programs and support those in our community who are living with lupus. We need YOU to defeat lupus.
We share a common enemy and we despise him. He is confounding, vexing, shifty, and elusive. As if to mock us, he uses our own bodies to attack us. He casually inflicts pain and disability. Our adversary is tricky to diagnose, tricky to catch, and trickier still to understand. But understand him, we must. One of his cruelest weapons is to steal the physical and mental energy from his victims, leaving them utterly exhausted and unable to think clearly. Occasionally he ceases his attack to remind his target of what it means to feel good, only to attack again. Our common enemy is lupus. We must and we will defeat it.
Research is the key to solving the cruel mystery of lupus and ending its brutal impact. Years of disappointing results in drug development demonstrate the urgent need to take lupus research in a new direction. Research on lupus needs innovation and the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) is committed to delivering it. They challenge what isn’t working and fund and support research that is most hopeful to uncover the causes of lupus, understand its progression, and accelerate the search for cures.
"Years of disappointing results in drug development demonstrate the urgent need to take lupus research in a new direction."
In addition to funding critical research, our local Heartland Chapter provides many free resources to my patients that our Washington University Lupus Clinic doesn’t offer: educational programs, support groups, patient financial assistance, local and national advocacy.
The work of the Heartland Chapter is essential for our patients. But nothing is free.
I am asking you to make it your mission to end lupus by making a year-end donation to the Heartland Chapter. Your donation will help to fund vital research programs and support those in our community who are living with lupus. We need YOU to defeat lupus.

The studies we funded provided the foundation for every lupus research breakthrough during the past 40 years. Throughout our history, we have made pioneering contributions toward ending the brutal impact of lupus. And our efforts to accelerate lupus research won’t stop until the job is done.
We provide information, education, resources and referrals to help people with lupus understand and manage their disease. We offer in-person and online support, a free summer camp for girls with lupus, and a patient assistance fund for lupus patients in financial need.
We raise awareness of lupus to educate people about the disease and its signs and symptoms to reduce the time to diagnosis and extend understanding and compassion for those who suffer from lupus.
