We have an opportunity to share information about increasing minority participation in clinical trials (IMPACT). Lupus is not only more common in African Americans, it is typically more serious. In fact, African American women get lupus three times more than Caucasian women. As an African American, participation in clinical trials is important because:

  • African Americans participate at lower rates in clinical trials than other groups.
  • African Americans may respond differently to certain treatments than other racial groups.
  • Many of the current medications and procedures used to treat lupus have not been fully studied in African Americans.participation
  • Allows you to take an active role in your own health.
