Why We Walk
PC: Torres family
By Sara Bentley, National Walk Manager
As a Walk Manager for the Lupus Foundation of America’s Walk to End Lupus Now™, I have the opportunity to meet so many inspiring people who are affected by this cruel and mysterious disease. Everyone’s story is different, but they are all working toward a common goal: to raise funding and awareness for lupus research and education.
Crystal Torres is just one of them. She was diagnosed with lupus about 10 years ago and has participated in the Tampa Walk to End Lupus Now since it began five years ago. She is a top walker, team captain and fights hard against lupus in hopes that she can help create a future where no one has to suffer from its brutal impact.
“I will always keep fighting,” Crystal said. “I am a lupus warrior and will not allow this to control my life. I have an amazing husband and little boy who keep me going in life.”
Every dollar you raise at our Walk events helps us get one step closer to achieving our goals:
1. Reducing the time to diagnosis.
2. Ensuring an arsenal of safe and effective treatments.
3. Expanding direct services and access to treatments and care.
Crystal walks to “raise funds to help find a cure for lupus.” Join her and make the commitment to register, fundraise and help us achieve our mission. It is so important to the estimated 1.5 million women, men and children living with lupus in the United States.
