Enrollment Advances in La Jolla Pharmaceutical Phase III International Study on Riquent® for Lupus Kidney Disease
La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company has announced progress in enrolling patients and opening sites for its Phase III clinical trial of abetimus sodium (brand name Riquent®) for the treatment of lupus kidney disease. The Company has activated 65 international clinical trial sites.
Abetimus sodium is specifically designed for the treatment of lupus kidney disease and has already been tested in 13 clinical trials over a 10-year time span in more than 800 patients. Abetimus sodium has been well tolerated in all of these studies, with no serious side effects identified to date. Abetimus sodium is known to decrease the antibodies to double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), which may be associated with the progression of lupus kidney disease.
