Michael T. Smith, Ph.D., CBSM


Dr. Smith is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine.  He directs the Johns Hopkins Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program, which includes: a clinical service specializing in the treatment of patients with chronic  insomnia, an accredited Behavioral Sleep Medicine Fellowship Training Program, and an research laboratory funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Smith earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Alliant International University in San Francisco California and completed his internship and fellowship training at the University of Rochester School of Medicine.

His research focuses on the neurobehavioral causes, consequences, and treatments of insomnia and sleep loss with an emphasis on the interface between sleep and pain.

Dr. Smith serves on several editorial boards, governmental advisory panels and NIH research study sections.  Dr. Smith is the President-Elect of the Society of Behavioral Medicine, 2012.
