There are many ways you can get involved to support the LFA and its urgent mission.

Volunteers

The Mid-South Chapter cannot run without support and help from Volunteers.  In 2008, 229 volunteers gave over 20,000 volunteer hours.

Volunteers will need to be at least 16 years old and be willing to give at least 6 months service time.

Immediate Need!

Office Assistance: Answer the phones, prepare mailings, send information packets and some data entry. We are looking for four hour shifts,  but we are very flexible and we are fun!!

Education Services Committee: Helps plan the Awareness meetings, helps plan and execute yearly Medical Symposium, works Health Fairs, works with physician outreach program, maintains the Lending Library and Books for Sale, and recruits speakers.

Client Services Committee: Helps begin new support groups and provides support to the established groups, helps to plan the Buddy System, maintains the Minority Outreach Program, and helps to recruit phone counselors.

Fund Development Committee: Helps to organize the annual Walk for Lupus Now, annual Down the Garden Path Tour, annual Gospel Event event, Stars for Hope, aids with solicitation drive, and develops any other fundraising events.

Membership Committee: Develops and periodically provides a membership survey and implements a yearly membership drive in Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky.

Communications Committee: Responsible for publicity, helps produce PSA's, videos, collects news and educational articles to be published, helps with monthly Lupus Newsletter, Carelines, submits material for website, and markets lupus and the chapter.

Volunteer Committee: Helps to recruit and maintain a volunteer base and volunteers as needed during Lupus Events.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Health Fair Representatives: We need volunteers to attend Health Fairs several times a year and other events to give out lupus information and literature.  This is usually 2 to 3 hour shifts.

Support Group Facilitators: We are in need of facilitators in Clarksville, Cookeville,  Williamson Co., Huntsville, Alabama and other portions of Alabama.  We will provide the training.  Training is required!

Speaker's Bureau: We are looking for people who will speak at community meetings about lupus and share their stories with an audience whether you are a patient or a family member.

Community Outreach: We need volunteers who are willing to contact churches, community groups to arrange speakers and to distribute information and literature about lupus.

Walk for Lupus Now: We need volunteers to help plan the Walk for Lupus Now 2011 event.  Volunteers for the day are needed too.

Down the Garden Path: Volunteers are needed to help in the planning and execution of the Garden Tour in Spring 2012.
