The Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter provides awareness and education for the signs and symptoms of lupus for early diagnosis and treatment.
Volunteers from the chapter facilitate support group meetings and serve as area representatives to provide information, education and support. Those with lupus and other auto-immune diseases, family and friends are encouraged to attend. (Click here to see why you should attend a support group meeting.)
Physician referrals are available for patients. (See the rhuemotology referral list by clicking here on Physicians.) A Medical Advisory Board serves the Chapter.
The Chapter has a library items available for loan or sale. Books, brochures and videos are offered.
The Chapter hosts an annual patient education symposium, featuring medical professionals and an exhibitors show.
Partnering with area medical professionals and hospitals, the Chapter offers Lupus 101 for newly diagnosed patients at St. Catherine's Hospital and Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus.
The Chapter is represented at dozens of health fairs throughout the year to spread awareness about lupus. Lupus Alert Day, Strike Out Lupus (Railcats event), Walk for Lupus Now in Northwest Indiana, Walk for Lupus Now in Central Indiana, Chili Cook-Off & Tasting are annual events that increase awareness and raise funds to support Chapter activities.
The Chapter provides lupus education presentations to community groups and businesses.
Volunteers provide displays to area libraries to share information about lupus with the community.
Chapter volunteers send news releases to area newspapers and other media to promote Chapter activities and increase the community's awareness of the disease.
A local Chapter newsletter, Lupus Enlightener, is mailed to members. The publication includes information about local activities, research, programs, volunteer needs and fundraisers.
