Our Vision
The Lupus Foundation of America will advance the science and medicine of lupus to find a cure and to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus.
Our Mission
The Lupus Foundation of America is dedicated to finding the causes of and cure for lupus and providing support, services, and hope to all people affected by lupus.
Indiana Chapter: The LFA, Indiana chapter is a non-profit volunteer organization that has been serving Indiana since 1987. The chapter serves 92 counties. The office is located at 2642 Eleanor Street in Portage. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The mailing address is P.O. Box 2763, Portage, IN 46368. Physician referrals are available for patients. A local Chapter newsletter, Lupus Enlightener, is mailed throughout the year to members. The publication includes information about local activities, research, programs, volunteer needs and fund raisers. Lupus Now, the national magazine, is included in annual membership. (Membership is $25---the cost of an annual subscription to Lupus Now is $25---and your membership to the Indiana Chapter includes the magazine.) The Chapter has a library of items available for loan or sale. Books, brochures and videos are offered. Support group meetings are held throughout the state for lupus patients and their families. The Chapter hosts an annual patient symposium, featuring medical professionals and an exhibitors show. Partnering with area medical professionals and hospitals, the Chapter offers Lupus 101 for newly diagnosed patients at St. Catherine's Hospital and Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus. Awareness: The Chapter is represented at dozens of health fairs throughout the year to spread awareness about lupus. Lupus Alert Day, Strike Out Lupus (RailCats event), Walk for Lupus Now in Hobart and Walk for Lupus Now in Indianapolis, Chili Cook-Off & Tasting are annual events that increase awareness and raise funds to support Chapter activities. The Chapter provices lupus education presentations to community groups and businesses. Volunteers provide displays to area libraries to share information about lupus with the community. Chapter volunteers send news releases to area newspapers and other media to promote Chapter activities and increase the community's awareness of the disease.
For medical professionals: The Chapter offers education programs for physicians and other health professionals throughout the year. Free lupus information is available for physicians to distribute to patients and their families. Medical professionals serve on the Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter Medical Advisory Board and are instrumental in relaying information about Chapter events and programs to lupus patients.
