Public Awareness: The Ad Council has developed a National Lupus Awareness Campaign, Could I have Lupus? This is a collaboration with the US Department of Health and Human Services and many other organizations. There is wonderful information on this website. Please check out www.couldihavelupus.gov
Education of the public about lupus symptoms, diagnosis and treatment:
- Hosted a Lupus Education Day in Rochester (2007 & 2008);
- Supply In-service training to health care providers;
- Attend Health Fairs supplying Educational Information and Literature;
- Speak to Community Groups;
- Do Public Service Programs whenever possible.
Support services to assist individuals with lupus, their families and caregivers include:
- Telephone support;
- Physician and other referrals;
- Informational/Educational brochures;
- Local and National newsletters;
- Educational meetings which are open to the public;
- Scholarships for SportsNet classes;
- Support Group for the individual with lupus.
Advocate for public policies. Our national office has supplied information and You can be an advocate for possible modifications to the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 regarding fluorescent light bulbs.
Fund lupus research whenever possible.
Collaborations with partners in the community help us to serve the needs of the lupus community:
- SportsNet, supplying sports and recreation to people with handicaps & disabilities;
- Collaboration with the Kidney Foundation;
- Worked on the CLIC on Health website development to supply reliable medical resources;
- Participated in the Health Association Collaborative to help improve Outreach efforts;
- Member of the Women's Wellness Collaborative with the MS Society and Nazareth College supplying workshops from 2000-2008.
Special Events include: Night of Encores Concert, Walkathons, and Golf Tournaments.
