Become a Member of the Lupus Foundation of America

The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) was established in 1977 to educate and support those affected by Lupus and find the cure. The LFA supports research, education, awareness, patient services, and advocacy.
 
LFA is a nationwide grassroots, volunteer-driven organization exclusively serving individuals, families, and friends affected by lupus. We have hundreds of local chapters and support groups throughout the United States, as well as international affiliates around the world.
 
The Lupus Foundation of America, Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter serves southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and southern New Jersey. Please contact us to find out how you can become involved in our mission.
 
A subscription to Lupus Now is included as a benefit of membership to the Lupus Foundation of America, Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter. Volunteer Descriptions: We need dedicated people to help with Foundation projects. Volunteers need to be at least 14 years of age. Please download and complete the form attached above, and submit to our office in order to register to be a volunteer. Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the LFA Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter!

Event Staff: Help make our special events successful. Help to register participants, with refreshments, and many other facets of our walks and other special events. Specific events requiring volunteers include the Lupus Loop, New Jersey Walk for Lupus Now, Delaware Walk for Lupus Now, Lupus Links Golf Tournament, Living Well Seminar, etc.

Patient and Community Services Committee: Organize World Lupus Day programs and the Living Well Seminar and associated events.

Advocacy: Meet with state and federal legislators to ensure that funding is provided for research and educational programs.

Office Support: Answer telephones, prepare mailings and possibly do some data entry.

Publicity/Public Relations: Be willing to tell your story about living with lupus. Contact local community newspapers to request coverage of chapter fund-raising events and educational programs.

Educational Programs: Share your expertise as a health care professional, social worker or lawyer to provide information to assist those living with lupus.

Health Fairs: We receive many requests from local churches, universities and hospitals to distribute information about lupus. Most of these requests take place during the spring and summer months.

Community Outreach: Volunteers to contact potential partners by telephone and mail. (e.g. sorority, businesses, civic groups, etc.)

Outreach to High Risk Groups: One of our concerns is increasing awareness within high-risk groups, specifically, African-Americans, Asian and Hispanic communities. The volunteers should be willing to contact church and community groups, distribute literature and arrange for our speakers to address their meetings.

Support Group Facilitators: Must be at least 21 years of age. Facilitators will receive training. Support Groups meet once a month. Most groups do not meet in Jan., Feb, July and August.

Self-Help Course Leader: Must be at least 21 years of age. Leaders are required to complete a formal training program.

Grant Writing: Work with office staff to complete and submit grant applications on behalf of the Lupus Foundation of America, Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter.
