The first annual Dr. John Siegel Jr. Memorial 5K, held on the beautiful campus of HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, is a not-to-be-missed running event in Huntsville. The event is inspired by Dr. Siegel's valiant fight against lupus, and its proceeds further efforts to serve the 85,000 lupus patients covered by the Mid-South Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America. The Lupus Foundation of America will partner with the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) to support a new five-year initiative that will accelerate the ability to develop new medicines for lupus and other diverse and complex diseases.
The Lupus Foundation of America announced today it is accepting applications to provide critical funding for lupus scientific research, at a time when government funds for lupus research can’t keep pace with the accelerating growth of lupus scientific opportunities.
Children with lupus may have a higher risk for developing cancer – especially blood cancers such as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and leukemia – compared to children without lupus.
