Our Magical Night of Hope
Our 4th Night of Hope Gala was stunning beyond our dreams. Our long standing chapter friends, many new sponsors and over 350 generous guests together helped us exceed our goal - raising $210,000 for our fight against lupus!
Fundraising is Not Raising Funds - But Friends!
Attendees included our sponsors, former Chapter board chairs, Alex Cann Jr. and Stephanie Snider and many of Atlanta’s elite, including Congressman Hank Johnson and his wife, Mereda Davis Johnson, Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Young, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard, Atlanta Councilwoman Keisha Lance Bottoms, Herman Russell, Mary and John Brock, Sam's Club CEO Rosalind Brewer and many more!
All enjoyed the fabulous food by Aviva by Kameel, breathtaking décor by Chuck Milne, our audio visuals by our dear friend, James Taylor of Atlanta Pro AV, music by Lisa McGlown and many more.
For too long, lupus has been a disease that was characterized by late diagnosis, an uniformed public and toxic medications approved for other illnesses. The wonderful publicity we received before and at the event, Channel, 3 covered the evening, will help raise awareness and support and give hope to the 55,000 Georgians for a brighter future!
Lovette Russell and Kim Schofield, 2012 Night of Hope Honorees
Mary Cann Achievement Award Honoree
"Lovette defines leadership, and has an amazing gift, she makes everyone feel loved and so special, she makes us all want to be better in every way," states Maria Myler.
Surprise presenters, replacing Mayor Kasim Reed, were Lovette’s sons, Michael and Benji, who touched everyone with their engaging introduction, “We are the lucky ones who go home with this great lady every night. She changes our community and she changes people.” Lovette shared her many personal challenges and inspired the entire room to make a difference! Natalie Bates joined Lovette on the stage.
Tomica Gill Courage Award Honoree
Kim Schofield, a resounding voice fighting lupus, received the Tomica Gill Courage Award given annually to a chapter patient who is changing lives and making a difference for those living with lupus. Kim is a dynamic patient advocate, one of our longest serving support group leaders and the founder of our state Advocacy Day at the capitol.
"Kim is at the heart of all we do, her energy and drive makes us fight harder every day for all who need us," states Maria Myler, "She represents us at hundreds of events and advocates in Georgia and in DC.”
"My mother is my hero! She makes me believe anything is possible. When I think about how many people my mom has touched with her story advice and friendship, I swell with pride. She did not allow lupus to control her life. Rather, she took control of her lupus," states Kyler Griffin.
