Penelope C. Fletcher Emergency Assistance Fund
Because lupus flares suddenly, patients and their families often face unanticipated medical, emotional, and financial crises. They encounter obstacles in quickly qualifying for community resources or disability assistance. The Penelope C. Fletcher Emergency Assistance Fund assists those lupus patients who have needs not covered by community resources. Requests are considered for help with home health care, childcare, certain medications, transportation, personal care items, or other products and services that will help alleviate some of the hardships associated with living with lupus.
How to Qualify:
- The applicant must be a lupus patient living in Washington DC, Maryland, or Central or Northern Virginia.
- You will need to complete the Patient Application Form and return it to Lupus Foundation of America DC/MD/VA
- Please give the Physician Verification Form to the doctor who currently treats you for lupus and have them return the form via mail or fax.
- If you have a Social Worker or other health care professional working on your behalf, give the Social Services Verification to him/her.
LFA-DC/MD/VA will contribute toward payment for valid services or items not covered by other community resources.
This is a fund of last resort. Because the funds are limited, the program does not pay for hospital bills or recurrent living expenses, such as utility bills or rent. Services or items covered by other community resources will not be provided by the fund.
Upon receiving the completed paperwork, the Patient Services Committee will review your request and make a decision as quickly as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact LFA-DC/MD/VA at (888) 787-5380 if you have questions about the program or the application.
The Penelope C. Fletcher Emergency Assistance Fund was funded initially through the generosity of an anonymous donor. It continues with the support of many benefactors and friends. A special thanks to all those who support the Penelope C. Fletcher Emergency Assistance Fund.
*Grants are made when funds are available
