Understanding lupus

Are people with lupus at increased risk for cancer?

The over-all cancer risk for people with lupus (that is, all cancer types considered together) is only about 10-15 percent increased compared to the general population. Some cancers are more common in lupus than the general population (for example, lymphoma, a cancer of blood cells), and some cancers are less common in lupus than the general population (for example, breast cancer), so that over-all, there is only a slight increase in cancer for people with lupus, versus the general population.
