IMPACT for Lupus
Improving Minority Participation and Awareness of Clinical Trials for Lupus (IMPACT)
IMPACT for Lupus is a one year grant to the Lupus Foundation of America by the Office of Minority Health as part of a larger federal initiative, the National Health Education Lupus Program.
The goal of IMPACT for Lupus is:
- to develop and implement a successful education program on clinical trials hand-in-hand with community partners
- to encourage and facilitate broader participation and retention in lupus clinical trials among minority and/or disadvantaged populations impacted by lupus that are
combat the underrepresentation of minority and disadvantaged community in clinical research on lupus
The impact of low minority participation in clinical trials is exacerbated in lupus because minorities are disproportionately and more severely affected by the disease.
Although there is little to no research on the barriers to minority participation in lupus clinical trials, there is a large body of evidence regarding minority participation in trials for other diseases.
This project will be directed by a network of community partners that will be empowered by the Lupus Foundation of America to conduct research in their communities and help move the dial on lupus education and treatment.
